Synopsis
Synopsis | In Samegrelo, a Georgian region near the disputed Abkhazia border, a family of four struggles in the aftermath of the 1992 conflict. Soso, a retired engineer, his wife Nino, and their sons Giorgi and Lazare, work hard to sustain themselves through their family guesthouse and agriculture. Despite limited opportunities in Zugdidi, their town, they mortgage their house to invest in a blueberry field through the 'Plant the Future' program. Their future rests on the success of their first harvest. While Nino dreams of her children exploring the world, memories of war haunt her. Soso, on the other hand, wishes for his boys to stay connected to their homeland. But Giorgi and Lazare yearn for a different future, delving into anime, karate, and dreams of visiting Japan. Through a personal lens, the director, who has experienced war and displacement, explores the complexities of a bitter history, an uncertain present, and the potential for reimagining the future. |
