In a peaceful village in the Condroz region, Rémi, a young farmer and great fan of detective novels, leads a peculiar life, dividing his time between his work on the farm and his role as a neighbourhood agent. Fascinated by the legendary Maigret, he dreams of solving criminal cases. When the murder of a Flemish engineer upsets the winter tranquillity, he immediately lends a hand to the local police, who are completely out of their depth.
With the help of a disillusioned ex-cop and a former prima ballerina he secretly fancies, Rémi hunts down a culprit he imagines to be an outsider. But as the investigation progresses, he discovers to his horror that danger is lurking where he least expected it: among his own people!
